Buying a vehicle in the United States for export is a little different from shipping a car to a residential address.
You may have purchased the vehicle from Copart, IAAI, Manheim or another auction, but now you need to move it from the auction yard to the port before it can continue its international journey.
This is where timing and coordination become important.
MA1 USA Auto Transport helps customers move auction vehicles across the United States, including transportation toward major ports such as Jacksonville, Florida.
From auction yard to port
A typical shipment may look something like this:
Auction purchase → Vehicle release → Pickup → Transport → Port delivery → Export/shipping process
The transportation company handles the over-the-road portion. The ocean carrier, freight forwarder or export company generally handles the next part of the shipment.
Keeping these steps organized can help prevent unnecessary delays.
Why timing matters
Auction vehicles often have specific pickup windows and storage policies. If a vehicle sits at an auction yard longer than expected, additional storage charges may become an issue.
For exporters buying multiple vehicles, delays can also create problems with shipping schedules.
That’s why it’s a good idea to start arranging inland transportation as soon as the vehicle is released and you know the port and shipping schedule.
What information does the transporter need?
When requesting transportation from an auction to Jacksonville, provide as much accurate information as possible.
For example:
- Auction name and location
- Lot number
- Vehicle year, make and model
- Vehicle condition
- Whether it runs and drives
- Pickup information
- Port or delivery location
- Requested delivery date
- Any special loading requirements
If the vehicle is damaged or non-running, tell the transporter before pickup. That allows the carrier to plan the right equipment.
What about the Bill of Lading?
The Bill of Lading is an important shipping document, but it is not necessarily the same thing as the ownership documentation required for export.
If you’re exporting a used vehicle, make sure you understand the documentation requirements before the vehicle reaches the port. Depending on the vehicle and circumstances, U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements may apply.
For unusual situations, such as a vehicle without a title, it is especially important to confirm the documentation requirements with your customs broker, freight forwarder or CBP before moving the vehicle.
Jacksonville vehicle transport
Jacksonville is an important transportation and port market in Florida.
If your vehicle is sitting at an auction somewhere in the United States, you may need an inland carrier to move it to Jacksonville before the ocean shipment.
MA1 USA Auto Transport provides nationwide vehicle transportation and works with customers moving auction vehicles toward major U.S. ports.
Don’t wait until the last minute
One of the easiest ways to make an export shipment harder is to wait until the vessel schedule is approaching before arranging inland transportation.
Give yourself time to coordinate:
- Vehicle release
- Auction pickup
- Inland transport
- Port delivery
- Export documentation
- Ocean shipment
The exact process can vary depending on the vehicle, auction, port, shipping line and export arrangements.
